We Dey Pose For U, Part VI is the sixth instalment following the ongoing (We Dey Pose For U) series by Kamorudeen that began in 2024 as a reflection on Black childhood, memory, and the quiet ways identity is protected, and preserved.

Approximately 180 inches wide (15 foot long) and 40 inches high, expanding across six individual canvases, the work transforms the artist’s familiar phrase into a visual journey, inviting viewers to move through each word as both a sentence and a lived experience recognizing the anchor that connects it all.

At the center of the composition stands a child whose outstretched arms extend beyond the boundaries of a single canvas.

Rather than existing as a singular figure, this kid becomes the anchor upon which other kids gather, play, observe, work, dream, and simply exist. Their interactions unfold across his arms like chapters in a shared story, suggesting that community is not built through grand gestures but through countless everyday moments that connect us.

Each panel carries its own emotional rhythm while remaining inseparable from the whole. Together they bring forth the balance between our individuality and collective identity. The kids are not performing for spectacle; instead, they reclaim the act of “posing” as one of presence. To stand, to look, to create, and to simply be —becomes an act of dignity. The work asks who is truly observing whom, quietly turning the viewer into a participant within the narrative.

Rooted deeply in Afro-Surrealism, “We Dey Pose For U, Part VI” blurs the line between reality and imagination to honour the expression of Black childhood. The surreal scale of the central figure and the intimate interactions scattered across the composition invite us to reconsider how memory functions—not as a single image, but as fragments woven together over time.
